Anthea is a Functional Health Coach located in the Northern Suburbs of Auckland who uses MRA scan devices to help her clients identify the root causes of their health concerns scanning their organs for viruses parasites and bacteria. After detecting any imbalances in their biofield during the scan, she combines therapy to rebalance them with a personalized action plan that is 100% achievable for each individual. This approach helps her clients get back on track towards optimal health.
Through her work with clients, she has often discovered that their adrenal glands are not functioning optimally.
It’s important to understand the crucial link between adrenal health and overall well-being. Most people will experience adrenal fatigue multiple times throughout their lives, which is especially prevalent in today’s digital age. Our fast-paced lifestyles and elevated stress levels often result in constantly heightened adrenaline levels, which can lead to addiction to this hormone. Over time, we become desensitized to adrenaline, requiring more of it to satisfy our addiction. This chronic state of fight or flight can result in an acidic body environment and a strain on the mitochondria, the power source of our body, setting the stage for disease. Which then leaves us stressed and tired.
“Stress is a natural part of life, but when it becomes chronic, it can have a profound impact on our physical and emotional health.“
- Dr. Robin Berzin

So, what are the adrenals, and why are they so important?
The adrenals are two small glands located on top of the kidneys that produce hormones essential for responding to stress, including adrenaline and cortisol. However, when under constant stress, such as dealing with chronic illness, financial troubles, or emotional stress, the adrenal glands can become fatigued and eventually burn out. This can result in the production of either too much or too few hormones, which can have negative health consequences.

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue may include lack of energy, abdominal weight gain, forgetfulness, weakness, difficulty concentrating, poor digestion, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and trouble with completing basic tasks. However, other factors may also contribute to these symptoms, so it’s important to consider other potential causes as well.
To support adrenal health, it’s recommended to eat a light snack every 2-3 hours, starting within half an hour of waking up. Grazing can help keep blood sugar stable throughout the day, allowing the adrenals time to rest and recover. Choosing snacks that comprise a balance of sodium, potassium, and magnesium can also be beneficial. Additionally, i_ncorporating stress-reducing activities like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises_ into your daily routine can help support healthy adrenal function.
Adrenal-supportive snacks could include:
- Coconut water, banana and spinach
- Orange, avocado and spinach
- Apple, celery and dates
- Cauliflower, apple and cucumber
- Sweet potato and kale (with freshly squeezed lemon on)

A great way to support our adrenal health is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. In traditional Chinese medicine, the adrenals and kidneys are considered part of the same organ system. Therefore, what benefits the kidneys will also benefit the adrenals. To start your day off right, try drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up. And don’t forget to replenish your fluids after using the bathroom throughout the day.
In addition to water, there are certain foods that can help support adrenal function and combat adrenal fatigue. Berries, cherries, lemons, mangoes, grapes, figs, asparagus, leafy greens, sprouts, garlic, parsley, and raw honey are all great choices.
But nourishing our adrenals isn’t just about what we eat and drink. Engaging in lifestyle therapies such as deep breathing, journaling, and exercise can also provide immense benefits for our adrenal health. By incorporating these practices into our daily routines, we can support the health and well-being of our adrenals and overall body.
Another big one that takes a mock when our adrenals are not working is our gut:
The gut and the adrenal glands are two important components of the body’s stress response system, and they work closely together to maintain balance and promote overall health.
The gut is home to trillions of bacteria, collectively known as the gut microbiome, which play a crucial role in digestion, nutrient absorption, immune function, and even mood regulation. The gut is also intimately connected to the body’s stress response system, with the enteric nervous system (ENS) serving as a direct communication pathway between the gut and the brain.
When the body perceives a threat, the adrenal glands release cortisol and other stress hormones that trigger the fight-or-flight response, enabling us to respond quickly and effectively to the perceived threat.
However, chronic stress can take a toll on both the gut and the adrenals. Prolonged cortisol release can lead to inflammation, which can damage the gut lining and disrupt the balance of the gut microbiome. In turn, an imbalanced gut microbiome can contribute to adrenal dysfunction, as gut bacteria play a key role in regulating the production and metabolism of stress hormones.
To promote optimal health, it is essential to support both the gut and the adrenal glands.
Supplements that help Fatigue
Although lifestyle choices should be the primary focus when it comes to supporting our adrenal health, there are certain supplements available that can aid in relieving strained adrenals. These supplements have been specially designed to provide support and promote healing of the adrenals.

Protandim NRF2
Protandim NRF2 is a dietary supplement that contains natural ingredients that are known to activate the NRF2 pathways in the body. NRF2 is a powerful antioxidant pathways that plays a critical role in protecting cells from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Oxidative stress can damage cells and lead to chronic inflammation, which is linked to a wide range of health problems, including adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands, which are responsible for producing hormones that regulate stress response, become overworked and fatigued. This can lead to a range of symptoms, including fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and depression. The NRF2 pathways has been shown to help protect the adrenal glands from oxidative stress and promote healthy adrenal function.
Studies have shown that the ingredients in Protandim NRF2 can help to activate the NRF2 pathways in the body, leading to increased antioxidant activity and reduced oxidative stress. This can help to protect the adrenal glands from damage and promote healthy adrenal function. In addition, Protandim NRF2 has been shown to help reduce inflammation, which is a major contributor to adrenal fatigue.
Overall, Protandim NRF2 can be an effective way to support adrenal health and reduce the risk of adrenal fatigue. By activating the NRF2 pathways and reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, this supplement can help to protect the adrenal glands and promote healthy adrenal function. However, it is always important to talk to a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have a pre-existing health condition or are taking medications.

Ashwaganda RuVed
Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is an adaptogenic herb that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The herb is known for its ability to help the body adapt to stress, and has been used to treat a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and even cancer.
Ru Ved is a brand that specializes in providing high-quality Ayurvedic products, including ashwagandha. Their ashwagandha supplements are made from organic ashwagandha root and are designed to support the body’s natural ability to adapt to stress and promote overall wellness.
Ashwagandha works by regulating the body’s stress response system, which is controlled by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. By modulating the HPA axis, ashwagandha helps to reduce the production of cortisol, a hormone that is released in response to stress and can lead to adrenal fatigue and other health issues when produced in excess.
In addition to its stress-relieving properties, ashwagandha has also been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, making it useful for reducing inflammation and supporting overall immune function.
When choosing an ashwagandha supplement, it’s important to look for a high-quality brand like Ru Ved that uses organic, sustainably-sourced ingredients and has a good reputation for purity and potency. It’s also important to talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications.

Adrenal Cocktail
The adrenal cocktail is a popular drink in the realm of alternative health that has gained popularity due to its purported ability to support and nourish the adrenal glands. It is a combination of three ingredients: Amla powder, Redmond sea salt, and coconut water.
Amla powder, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is a potent antioxidant and is known for its high Vitamin C content. Vitamin C is crucial for adrenal health, as it plays a key role in the production of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol helps the body to respond to stress, and when the adrenal glands are overworked, cortisol production can become disrupted. Adding amla powder to the adrenal cocktail can help to provide a natural source of Vitamin C to support the adrenals.
Redmond sea salt is a type of salt that is rich in minerals, including magnesium, which is important for adrenal health. Magnesium helps the body to cope with stress and can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression. It also supports healthy sleep patterns, which can be disrupted when the adrenal glands are overworked. Redmond sea salt also contains trace amounts of other minerals, which can be beneficial for overall health and wellbeing.
Coconut water is a natural source of electrolytes, which are important for hydration and can support the adrenal glands by providing essential nutrients. Electrolytes are minerals that conduct electricity and are essential for the proper functioning of the body, including the adrenal glands. Coconut water also contains antioxidants and enzymes that can help to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
To make the adrenal cocktail, mix one teaspoon of amla powder, a quarter teaspoon of Redmond sea salt, and eight ounces of coconut water. Stir the ingredients together until they are well combined, and then drink the mixture. This can be taken once or twice a day to support adrenal health.
It is important to note that while the adrenal cocktail can be a useful tool in supporting adrenal health, it is not a substitute for proper medical care. If you are experiencing symptoms of adrenal fatigue, it is important to work with a qualified healthcare practitioner to address the underlying causes and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Malic Acid
Malic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in many fruits, such as apples, cherries, and grapes. It plays a critical role in energy production and has been shown to be effective in combating fatigue and aiding in detoxification.
One of the primary ways malic acid helps combat fatigue is by increasing energy production in the body. It does this by playing a crucial role in the Krebs cycle, a series of biochemical reactions that occur within the mitochondria of our cells to generate energy in the form of ATP. Malic acid helps the body produce more ATP, which results in increased energy levels and reduced fatigue.
In addition to increasing energy levels, malic acid has also been shown to aid in detoxification. It works by binding with toxic metals and minerals, such as aluminum and lead, in the body and helping to flush them out. This process helps reduce the toxic burden on the body and can lead to improved overall health.
Supplementing with malic acid has been found to be particularly effective for individuals with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia. These conditions are often characterized by extreme fatigue, muscle pain, and other symptoms that can significantly impact one’s quality of life. Studies have shown that malic acid supplementation can improve energy levels, reduce pain, and improve overall function in individuals with CFS and fibromyalgia.
In summary, malic acid is a powerful nutrient that can help increase energy levels, aid in detoxification, and combat fatigue. Supplementing with malic acid may be particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions such as CFS and fibromyalgia, as well as those looking to improve their overall health and well-being.
